A few words about me


About Erik Skovgaard

 

First licensed in Denmark in 1963 as OZ5EU

    - Active on CW & SSB mainly on 80 m

Took a break raising a family, for work, etc. from 1972-1991

Licensed in Canada as VE0MDL and VE7MDL in 1991

    - Worked exclusively Marine Mobile from 1992 - 2016

    - Working all HF bands, 6 m and 2 m.  CW, SSB and several digital modes

 Became VA7QI in 2016 when moving to Quadra Island, BC

    - Now operating mainly digital modes, but will do the odd rag chew on SSB and the odd contest

    - Net control or relay for the Westcoast Boaters' Net during most of the boating season

    - Official relay station for the BC Public Service Net

    - Relay station of the Emergency Management BC HF net

    - Active in the Quadra Island Emergency Program

    - Member of the Campbell River Amateur Society (www.crars.org)

    - Accredited examiner for Amateur Radio Operator Certificate

 Enjoy Quadra Islands many trails, forests and beaches - daily

 Examiner for Boating and Marine radio

Other activities include some occasional writing of a few books and technical articles.

Professional background:

- Graduated as a Chemical Engineer from Copenhagen Institute of Technology

- Research assistant studying structure of proteolytic enzymes

- Developed process control software for pilot breweries

- Participated in development of international standards (ITU-T X.400 and X.500-series)

- Designed, installed and consulted in Identity and Access Management for governments, business and First Nations
